CHARACTER DESCRIPTION BELOW:

BILLY MURPHY(Protagonist)
16-18 y/o, good-looking, skinny fit, raised by 3rd generation Irish/Italian Brooklyn working-class family who own a home. From a young age, Billy gravitated to the have-nots. His friends are a rough and tumble motley crew who  live in the Section 8 apartments on the same block. Billy Murphy is not your average juvenile delinquent hood rat though, He attends school and has ambition.  His charm and quick-witted storytelling make him likable, and adept at maneuvering  relationships. Nevertheless he still gets himself into trouble and makes teen mistakes as he tries to figure out who and what he wants to be.

MARIE MURPHY:
35-ish, but looks 5 years younger. When she was young, she was sexy (wore her t-shirt one size too small) with a hot, fiery personality. She fell in love young and was widowed young by her cop husband Francis who was killed on the job. Now she struggles to pay the bills and looks a little worn down and sad. She’s Italian, but not over-the-top Italian. More Linda Cardellini in Greenbook than a Sopranos extra. She is not polished or sophisticated, curses often, but she is a good mom. She could use a little bit of luck to get her back in her groove.

BOB DIAMOND:
40-ish, Tall, thin, Southern California transplant with dull dirty blonde hair and a sand-blasted tan that never seems to go away. Bob is a substitute teacher in Billy’s rowdy public school. He is a little nerdy, naive, but smart and confident in who is is. He sticks out like a sore thumb in this rough-and-tumble neighborhood. He ends up being Billy’s needed father figure and Marie’s love interest.

CHICKIE DIBENEDETTO:
16-19 y/o, good looking in an unconventional way  (think Barry Keoghan). Super skinny almost undernourished, but ripped muscular physique. His troubled childhood left him with scars across back from being whipped with a car antenna while in and out of foster care, but he freely wears them like a badge of honor. Always shirtless and smoking a cigarette when he’s not riding around on his BMX selling weed or coke. He is Billy’s best friend and the two have a special bond. Billy is the only person who knows all about Chickie’s past and his insecurities. Chickie looks out for Billy helping him to stay on the straight and narrow.

BARBIE GONZALEZ:
17 y/o sexy Puerto Rican girl. She’s smart and focused but speaks with a Spanglish accent.
She is Billy’s love interest. She cares about school and her future and pushes Billy to think about his future in a way no one else could. Must be able to speak spanish.

JOHNNY HUCK:
18-19 y/o tall, blue-eyed Nordic, and muscled up like he’s 25. His blonde hair was always shellacked back in a DA with a can of Aqua-net. Huck was probably Billy’s 2nd best friend. Trouble and bad luck always had a way of finding Huck, maybe because he was an alcoholic before his 16th birthday. He was often the ring leader with whatever trouble they all got into. Yet, he was loyal and  always had their asses.

ALBIE MONTERO:
18 y/o Dominican/Sicilian boy. Short and tough like Pesci in Goodfellas. Another one of Billy’s friends from the block he grew up on. Albie was legit crazy and evil from the day he was born. Somebody’s bat-swinging brother or boyfriend was always coming around for “that little dark-skinned scumbag”. Albie loyalty was questionable at times.

Principle Sneed:
55-ish Male. Principle of dilapidated public HS in Brooklyn. He takes full advantage of his power and he doesn’t care about the kids or the teachers. Everything he does in his role is self serving and everyone knows how horrible he is.

Versatile Female:
Need a versatile female actress to read various female roles including old women speaking broken Italian, various teenage girls with Italian and Spanish accents, 80’s secretary and a loose cannon drunk foster mom.

Versatile Male:
Need a versatile male actor to read various male roles including NYPD cop, IAD detective, newspaper reporter, garbagemen, car service dispatcher, tough guy.
