Currently casting Noah Laforest’s NYU Thesis Pilot “Ti Blan.”
Casting for the following roles:
Junior (17- early 20’s): Lead, male presenting, Black. Junior is a fiercely independent and rebellious teenager with dreams of attending art school in the city. He’s smart and resourceful but often clashes with the expectations set by his family, leading to internal conflicts with his Haitian heritage.
Mama Pomeili (60s-70’s): Lead, female presenting, Black, has working proficiency in Creole language. The strong-willed and spirited matriarch who upholds the traditions of her Haitian heritage with pride and is dedicated to passing down the wisdom from her culture. Though stringent, Mama Pomeili’s love runs deep, mainly expressed through her actions rather than words (when she uses her words, it’s usually in her native Creole).
Tatie Rose (40’s-50s): Lead, female presenting, Black, has working proficiency in Creole language. Junior’s abrasive aunt who runs the family restaurant with an iron hand, valuing discipline and tradition. She often clashes with modern influences, balancing the weight of familial expectations with her own sacrifices. Despite her tough demeanor, her actions are driven by a deep love for her family.
Solange (mid 20’s): Supporting, female presenting, Black-American, has working proficiency in Creole language. Junior’s cousin and Tatie Rose’s daughter who is navigating her family’s traditional expectations and her own yearning for independence. Intelligent and amiable, yet occasionally diva-like, she often mediates conflicts between Junior and their elders while dutifully assisting at the family restaurant.
Martial (30’s-40s): Supporting, male presenting, Black. Junior’s father who has drifted from his Black roots in an effort to fit into the American mold, estranging himself from his sibling and mother in the process. As a single father, he handles his various responsibilities with quiet intensity and alcohol, committed to practicality and traditional manhood. His attempts to enforce these “real man” values onto Junior has unintentionally widened the gap between them.
Joseph (50’s-60’s): Supporting, male presenting, Black, has working proficiency in Creole language. Also known as Uncle Joe, Joseph is Junior’s old-school and hilarious uncle and barber. His easy going nature and deep sense of community make him a grounding presence in Junior’s life.
Yves (50’s-60s): Supporting, male presenting, Black, has working proficiency in Creole language. Yves is another one of Junior’s uncles at the barbershop who is quick to give advice, whether it’s warranted or not. He is straightforward, disciplined, and extremely protective of Junior and constantly tries to steer him away from bad influences.
