Role: Liz
Liz, Jimmy’s mother, is a petite woman, with big eyes similar to Jimmy’s. Liz is trapped in an abusive marriage with John, Jimmy’s father, and has developed low self-esteem and self-worth. She loves Jimmy but is too scared to stand up to John or leave him. Liz has convinced herself, as many abused women do, that it is her fault when John becomes mad and lashes out. She also feels a responsibility for John, that he is dependent on her. When Jimmy runs away from home, Liz is filled with worry and guilt. She searches for Jimmy everywhere, hoping that she can convince him to return home. Eventually Liz finds Jimmy, but after Jimmy sees that nothing has changed, he refuses to go back. Although the conversation she had with Jimmy was difficult, it motivated her to find the strength to stand up for herself and finally leave the abusive relationship. She tells Jimmy the news and he is incredibly proud of her. She understands Jimmy’s love for his new family and so invites them to stay at their house until they figure out their situations.
