CASTING CALL
BURDEN

EDWARD – AGED 26-30

Edward is the protagonist of the film, his whole life begins to crumble when he becomes consumed by survivor’s guilt after feeling responsible for his younger brother, Samuel’s death. We watch him transform from a careless, boisterous young man into a self-loathing shell of himself, pushing away those closest to him and deliberately isolating himself, almost as a form of self-punishment. He’s someone who has always lived in the moment and cared little for consequences, but after this life changing event, he is forced to come to terms with the fact that he’s made mistakes that are simply beyond repair.

SIOBHAN – AGED 57-62

Siobhan is a character who is overcome with grief over the loss of her younger son, Samuel. She’s almost numb with the pain of losing him and instead of screaming and crying, her response is to essentially freeze. When her older son Edward tries to get through to her, she can’t even face him as there’s a part of her that blames him for what happened, even though it’s never explicitly said. Siobhan has always tried her best as a mother but struggled to hide her favouritism toward Samuel, as he always stayed on a narrow path, whereas Edward was always known for causing trouble and not applying himself.
